Peter Price wants to know if you can move an application to another unit to run your computer faster

Is it possible to move a software I installed on my desktop computer to a device that I just bought? Program of desktop publishing Serif, and it takes a lot of memory on my PC. I thought that removing the program, which would help to make my PC run faster. (I know very little about pcs.)

Peter Price

I can not think of a program that, by themselves, make a big impact on a fairly modern computer and software desktop publishing from Serif definitely should not cause any problems. Free Serif PagePlus Starter Edition is the most common rejection. This works on PC with only 512 MB RAM and 100 MB free disk space, which is small compared to today's standards. In fact, any PC bought since 2005 - the year of Windows Vista came out - must have at least 2GB of memory and 100GB of disk space. That's four times the memory and a thousand times the disk space required.

adding memory

First, make sure you have enough memory installed. If you use Microsoft Windows XP, press F1 to open the Help and Support. Click on the word "information" in the upper left corner. This will bring up a chart showing the basic specification of your PC. There is an entrance to the right of "Random Access Memory (RAM)." It should be 2048MB or 3072MB or more preferably. If it says 512 or 1024, your PC does not have enough memory, and the easiest way speed is to install more.

Go to Crucial.com site, check the box to accept the terms and conditions, and run the Crucial System Scanner to scan your system. If you get stuck, there is a short video explaining how. (You can also see the video on YouTube.) Click where it says "Show Quick Settings" and the scanner will tell you which cards can be purchased to extend the PC's memory.

If your PC has, for example, 1 GB (ie 1024) memory and two empty memory slots, so you might be able to add two 1GB chips to extend to 3 GB by 30 pounds. This is probably the least expensive if you use Windows XP 32-bit option. Of course, you need to open the case of your computer to match the new memory, so it is useful to explore this problem in the first place. Depending on the type of PC you have, you have a video on YouTube to show how.

reclaim space on the hard drive

Then check that you have enough free disk space. The best strategy is to never let Windows go below 1 GB of free disk space, and ideally keep 5GB or more free space. Windows uses a swap file on the hard disk to store the code work (pagefile.sys). If you need more space in the swap file, Windows will slow to a crawl.

If you do not have much space, make sure you know all the usernames and passwords that are used for various websites, and delete all temporary Internet files. Each browser has its own way of doing things. In Internet Explorer 8, click Tools and select "Delete Browsing History (Ctrl + Shift + Del)." In Google Chrome, click on the burger (three horizontal lines at the top right), select Tools, then "Clear browsing data". This could free up a few gigabytes. It will be much you could save by moving the software Serif.

After running CCleaner, download and run Download SlimCleaner by clicking where it says "or download This is faster than using the green button to download it from Download Utilities Slimware. (. com.) SlimCleaner analyze all the software on your hard drive and help you decide which programs to uninstall.

Click on the Software button on the left side of SlimCleaner: This will show all programs on your PC, and give them a "community rating" based on what others think ideally. all programs get a touch of green for good, even though some will probably be optional or unskilled. red check and consider whether you really need. Click you do not want, and you uninstall SlimCleaner. This will free more disk space.

Incidentally, note the tab marked improvements. Ideally, all software must be updated to older versions may have known vulnerabilities. SlimCleaner inform you about new updates and download them for you.
