Following previous attacks on its reliability, Wikipedia is now an essential part of our cultural landscape online. In fact, it is difficult today to imagine a world in which no apparent rapidly to a fact or other online Wikipedia and write some keywords. But this centrality brings its own problems, as a post on Benjamin Mako Hill has received threats of prosecution for his work as a Wikipedia editor says.

You can read the long and complicated history in place, but the facts are basically the same. A Berlin-based organization called the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD) is unfortunate because an entry about it has been deleted from Wikipedia. Hill explains why this happened:

Although the Wikipedia article was long and detailed, internally sent some alarm bells for me Wikipedian. Page read for me, as an announcement or something written by the organization described, but just did not read - for me - as an encyclopedia article written by a neutral third party.

I looked through the history of the article and found that the article had been created by a user named Icd_berlin he had not other substantive issues of the encyclopedia. After a thorough examination, I discovered that almost all other important content contributions were a series of anonymous IP editors responds associated with Berlin. I also discovered that the couple had removed critical editions which was added to the article. The review was removed by a anonymous writer in Berlin

After some discussion among editors of Wikipedia, the article was first proposed to delete, and then removed well -. But not before the Colline own Wikipedia page was edited to accuse him of slander and defamation. Things were quiet for a moment, and then came another page on Wikipedia CIM:

Several months later, a new article has been created - again, by an anonymous user without any editing history. Although people tend to look closely at what new pages have been deleted, this page was created by a different name. "The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy" and not noticed

This was problematic for the following reason:

deleted Wikipedia articles are supposed to be recreated only after going through a process called the phase. Because the article has been recreated in this process, nominated for what is called quick erase under a policy that specifically addresses the refurbished items. Is removed again. Again, things were quiet.

But not for long. On 25 February this year, a new article appeared on Wikipedia CIM again "out of process", and a user with almost no editing history. The next day, Mr. Hill received an email from Mark Donfried described in the CIM website as "CEO and founder of the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy":

Please note that the ICD is to promote dialogue and open discussion, even critics, but some activities raised serious questions about the motives of their actions, and some even seem to have reasons of sabotage, which led to the CIE has no Wikipedia page at all.


We are deeply concerned by the actions of their own, which is causing considerable damage. As the person who initiated these actions with the members and the board of Wikipedia Wikipedia, so ask about their response to our questions below in the next 10 days (March 6).
